Terms of service
Last updated: September 2026
The service
OldFileOpener identifies legacy file formats and converts them to modern equivalents. The service is provided as-is. Conversion of obsolete formats is inherently lossy in places; we describe known limitations on each format page and in the notes attached to every result, but we cannot guarantee that any conversion is complete or accurate. Keep your original files.
Acceptable use
- Only upload files you own or have the right to process.
- Do not upload malware or use the service to attack, probe or overload our systems or anyone else's.
- Do not attempt to circumvent DRM or copy protection. Protected files are refused where we can detect them.
- Automated or bulk use requires prior agreement; the web tools are rate-limited.
Files and retention
Uploads and results are deleted automatically after three hours. Download links stop working at that point. We are not a storage service.
Availability
We aim for high availability but the service may be interrupted for maintenance or by factors outside our control. Features marked beta may change or be withdrawn.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OldFileOpener is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the service, including loss of data or inaccurate conversions. Your sole remedy is to stop using the service.
Changes
We may update these terms; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
